Ex oriente lux is a Latin locution literally meaning ‘from the East (comes) the light’. It refers of course to the Sun rising in the East but also evokes the founding role played by Eastern civilisations in World history.

The emblem of the association is the symbol of Shamash, the Mesopotamian solar god of Justice and Divination, which is sometimes represented on stelas or seals.
Symbol found in Susa in 1904, among the offerings of the temple of Inshushinak (1500-1200 BC).
